Abstract<\/h2>

Recent research has shown that the\u00a0amino acid<\/a>\u00a0glutamine can positively affect gut health by supporting the gut\u00a0microbiome<\/a>, gut mucosal wall integrity, and by modulating\u00a0inflammatory responses<\/a>. As modulated by the\u00a0vagus nerve<\/a>, via the\u00a0enteric nervous system<\/a>, the gut-brain connection can impact the brain’s neurochemical environment. Poor gut health can disrupt the balance of\u00a0neurotransmitters<\/a>, which can result in neuropsychiatric based conditions such as depression. Glutamine supplementation may provide significant adjunctive nutritional support in cases of depression by promoting proper gut health and function.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

A synbiotic preparation (SIM01) for post-acute COVID-19 syndrome in Hong Kong (RECOVERY): a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial<\/a><\/h4>

Interpretation<\/h3>
Treatment with SIM01 alleviates multiple symptoms of PACS. Our findings have implications on the management of PACS through gut microbiome modulation. Further studies are warranted to explore the beneficial effects of SIM01 in other chronic or post-infection conditions.<\/div>
DISCUSSION<\/strong><\/div>
The synbiotic preparation (SIM01) is a micro-encapsulated lyophilised powder containing 20 billion colony-forming units of three bacterial strains,\u00a0B adolescentis, Bifidobacterium bifidum<\/em>, and\u00a0Bifidobacterium longum<\/em> with three prebiotic compounds including galacto-oligosaccharides, xylo-oligosaccharides, and resistant dextrin, which has been shown to promote the growth of these bacterial strains but also other probiotic strains.
